School Uniform

The uniform we wear at King’s Northway Primary Academy identifies us as part of a big family. It is important that everyone has the correct uniform for school.

Boys Uniform

  • Grey trousers or shorts
  • Royal blue, with gold stripe school jumper or cardigan
  • White shirt
  • School tie
  • Plain Black leather or synthetic (looks like leather) waterproof sensible shoes – not training shoes. Shoes should not have a sport brand logo.

Girls Uniform

  • Grey skirt or pinafore dress
  • White shirt or blouse
  • Royal blue, with gold stripe school jumper or cardigan
  • School tie
  • Blue or grey tights or white socks
  • Black or brown school shoes or flat soled sandals (no peep-toes, sling backs or
    shoes with high heels)
  • All long hair tied back neatly, with hair accessories in school colours

 Summer Uniform

Whilst we do not have an official summer uniform shorts can be worn in place of trousers and a blue and white gingham dress can be worn in place of shirt/blouse and skirt/pinafore during the summer months. Dresses must still be accompanied by a King’s Northway cardigan.

Short sleeve shirts are also permitted, but not polo shirts.

For Health and Safety Reasons, all shoes should be flat and closed (no heels or mules). Children who cannot wear their school shoes for any reason will be required to change into their pumps whilst in school. This is a temporary measure while their school shoes are being replaced. Training shoes are not part of the school uniform and are not permitted. This includes black Velcro trainers with a sports logo.

PE Kit

  • Navy shorts
  • White school polo t-shirt
  • Infant children – black pumps (preferably with elastic)
  • Junior children – trainers or pumps (outdoor)

All children from Reception onwards require a school PE kit.

In winter, children may wear a tracksuit with training shoes for outdoor games.

Children who go swimming must have a costume, towel and bathing cap

Please ensure all uniform is clearly marked with your child’s name.

Jewellery

For safety reasons, children are not allowed to wear any jewellery other than a watch. Any child with pierced ears may only wear plain stud earnings in school which must be removed for swimming, games and PE.

Uniforms can be purchased from the school reception, Brienda Schoolwear (part of Alpha Schoolwear) in Liverpool or online from Alpha Schoolwear.

Attendance

Attendance Lead: Mr Newton

Attendance Officer: Miss Sultan

Excellent attendance is extremely important in our school. We are delighted to have been awarded the GOLD Attendance Quality Mark recognising our commitment to promoting excellent attendance at our school.

We believe that for children to achieve their full potential they need to attend regularly and punctually.  Children should be at school, on time, every day the school is open, unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. Parents/Carers should contact the school on the first day of a pupil’s absence. They should state the reason for their child’s absence and also the date on which they are expected to return to school.

Longer periods of illness, due to chicken pox, flu, etc. are expected. However, some children have two or three days away from school throughout the school year due to illness. This quickly adds up to pupils missing a significant number of days. This is why we are asking parents to consider if their child really needs to miss the time from school. If possible, bring your child to school and see if they could manage being in school, or bring them in a little later.

Ring, or ask at the office for advice if you are not sure. We will always call you if your child is too ill to be at school. Children who are consistently absent with two or three days’ illness as a pattern will be asked to meet with the Head Teacher/Attendance Lead and the EWO to address any health concerns.

Late Arrivals

The school day begins at 8.50am for all Reception to Year 6. Children should go straight to their classroom for the start of the school day. The school gates are closed by 9.00am, any child who arrives after this time will need to enter school at the main entrance reporting to the office giving the reason for lateness and for parents to sign their child/children in via the electronic sign in.

At King’s Northway we work hard to improve attendance and time keeping at the school. There are a few key things that we wish to develop with all our families:

It is essential that parents are on time bringing children to school and when collecting them at the end of the day. Class teachers will be asking for reasons for any lateness and persistent lateness will be further investigated by school or the Education Welfare Service.

Please continue to ring with school with your child’s absences.

The school number is 0151 722 3540.

When the Education Welfare Officer, Ms Charnock reviewed the registers, there were significant numbers of appointments, random days’ and illness that have affected our overall attendance, so we are asking parents to follow these guidelines:

Please do not make dental or GP appointments during the school day. We understand that this is difficult where hospital outpatient appointments have been made for you, but these do not take up the whole day and your child should attend school before/after the appointment

Please bring your appointment card or letter to the school office so your child’s mark can be recorded as medical and not unauthorised.

This year our aim is to achieve 97% or above. With your continued support, we would like you to please make every effort to ensure that your child is in school and on time every day.

We appreciate your support with aiming for this target.

Breakfast Club

Our King’s Northway Breakfast Club is a creative environment for our children to play with their friends whilst ensuring they eat breakfast before school.  At a cost of £2 per day, children receive toast, cereal and a drink.  The cost also helps cover the additional staffing and food costs. We believe this is still very good value for money and is considerably less than any other Breakfast Club that we have found. The Club is based in the school Hall and is open Monday to Friday from 7.45am (during term time only). Last entrance to the club is 8.30am.

It is open to all King’s Northway pupils and proves an extremely positive start to the school day with children from Reception through to Year 6 happily mixing together as they enjoy their breakfast.

If you have any questions in relation to Breakfast Club, please call Mrs Clay in the School Office.

Afterschool Club

After School Club is proving extremely popular with numbers now consistently exceeding 30 pupils each session.  Due to staffing ratios we are currently limited to a maximum of 30 children each night.

You are advised to book sessions as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as there could be a waiting list.

The King’s Northway After School Club will be available Monday – Friday from 3.30pm – 4.30pm or 3.30pm – 5.30pm (term time only) in the school Hall. Our aim is to create a welcoming, friendly social setting in which the children can enjoy after school.

School Meals

Paid School Meals

Free School Meals

This is different to the Universal Free School Meals.  Parents who are eligible for free school meals will still need to apply to the local authority.

 Universal Infant Free School Meals

Universal Infant free school meals (UIFSM) provides funding for all government funded schools to offer free school meals to pupils in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2.

E-Safety

King’s Northway Primary Academy works with staff, pupils, parents and carers to create a school community which values the use of new technologies in enhancing learning, encourages responsible use of ICT, and follows agreed policies to minimise potential e-safety risks.

We discuss, monitor and review our e-safety policy on a regular basis, linking it with other relevant policies such as Safeguarding, Pupil Behaviour and Anti-Bullying Policies. We support staff in the use of ICT as an essential tool for enhancing learning and in the embedding of e-safety across the whole school curriculum.

We ensure that pupils are aware of the potential e-safety risks associated with the use of ICT and mobile technologies and that pupils feel able and safe to report incidents and abide by the school’s e-safety policy.

We ask parents to help keep your child safe online by following the points below:-

  • Only use your first name. Do not give your surname.
  • Relatives who comment please also only use first names. E.g. Ali’s mum
  • Stay safe and do not share any personal information.
  • Do not post pictures of yourself.
  • No text talk. Read and check your comments.
  • Be polite. Do not write anything that could hurt anyone.
  • Always show respect when writing comments.

If you have any concerns about the safety of the blog or internet safety, please feel free to speak to child’s class teacher.

BPTAA

The Best Practice with Teaching Assistants Award (BPTAA) is an exciting national award that we received first in 2018 as Northway Primary & Nursery School. Then in June 2023 we were re-awarded and re-accredited with the updated award.

The award provides a practical resource to support school improvement, through best practice in leading the management and support of teaching assistants.

The core purposes that underpin the BPTAA are:

1. To recognise and celebrate the invaluable role of teaching assistants in supporting the teaching and learning and pastoral care of pupils.

2. To evaluate, monitor and support the leadership, management and work of teaching assistants in order to maximise pupil attainment, achievement and well-being of pupils.

Recent research suggests that the potential of teaching assistants to improve achievement and attainment of pupils is fully unlocked through strategic management of their work. Through completing the reaccreditation process for this award, our school seeks to ensure that every member of the school community feels valued, safe and secure, and every member can achieve their potential in all areas of school life.

We would like to inform you of our commitment to achieving the award and ask for any feedback you may have about our wonderful teaching assistants, for example how they may have helped your child with a particular lesson or helped them on the playground.

If you have any questions, please contact school.

Social, Emotional & Mental Health

Strong social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) is key to leading a happy, fulfilled and independent life. At King’s Northway we strive to ensure that we can help children, young people, their families and caregivers to tackle SEMH needs.

We offer an assisted program of intervention in school alongside external partner agencies and Bright Days, to provide every opportunity to unlock their full potential and thrive in all aspects of their lives.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the SEMH needs of yourself or someone in your care, please contact a member of the team:

  1. Mr Hargreaves – Mental Health Lead
  2. Mrs Jones – Brighter Days
  3. Mrs Cawley – Brighter Days

SEESAW

Seesaw is a unique online learning journal that has two main benefits to parents and families at King’s Northway. You can use the Seesaw family app to view your child’s work completed in school, with the opportunity to like and comment on their work and receive and send messages to your child’s class teacher. The Seesaw Class app allows your child to complete set activities from their class teacher at home for both homework and remote learning.

For more information or guidance about this, please see the video below.

Parentpay

Our school does not accept cash or cheque payments.  We are now a more convenient way to pay for school meals, After School Club, uniform and other school items using a secure service called ParentPay.

Parent Pay lets you make secure online payments using your credit or debit card.  Parent Pay offers you the freedom to make payments whenever and wherever you like, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – safe in the knowledge that the technology used is of the highest internet security available.

If you have not received your log in details, please contact the School Office who will be happy to help you get set up.

If you need to add another child to your account, please see the link below.
